Welcome to Doctor Science

Doctor Science is NOT a "real " doctor (but we do have science degrees. )
And we like to talk about ourselves in the third person plural.

Notice how the left hand picture shows light both on the dude with his hand in the fire and on the ground.

Notice how the right picture shows two distinct 'balls' of fire, just like the British professors made and talked about in their YouTube video.

And yes, he lost all the hair on his hand, but it is a small price to pay for science!

6th Grade Science

First Semester:

Independent and Dependent Variable PowerPoint

IV DV and Control Worksheet
Independent and Dependent Variables
Indentifying Variables Practice
Variables Worksheet
Independent versus Dependent Variable Worksheet
Variables Worksheet (with test tubes on top) Finishing the last two problems is HOMEWORK due December 1st.

SECOND SEMESTER

Cell Notes

Cell Notes (Continued) - some of it is the same; you don't need to write it twice. :)

WORKSHEETS

This first one requires the textbook, which you can get in the library.

Animal and Plant Cell Parts and Functions

A quick note on Smooth verses Rough ER from (http://bscb.org/learning-resources/softcell-e-learning/endoplasmic-reticulum-rough-and-smooth/): Rough ER (RER) is involved in some protein production, protein folding, quality control and despatch. It is called "rough" because it is studded with ribosomes Smooth E R (SER) is associated with the production and metabolism of fats and steroid hormones. It is "smooth" because it is not studded with ribosomes and is associated with smooth slippery fats.

A Major Project DONE AT HOME - Building a Cell

This is to be done alone (for either a plant or animal cell. If you want to work in partners, you must make BOTH a plant AND an animal cell. ( Two Different Cells)

This next one is a major project to be done in class (some time may be spent at home if you missed a day, were late, went to the bathroom repeatedly or for extended periods of time, or otherwise didn't use all the time in class provided.

Exploritory Science

In order to do any projects in Exploritory Science, YOU MUST HAVE THESE NOTES TAKEN DOWN IN YOUR OWN HANDWRITING:

Lab Safety Notes

After taking these notes, you can take the safety test using these notes to make sure you get all the answers correct. If you do not get all the answers (or almost all of the answers correct), you must redo the notes (that you don't have done neatly and completely),and take the test again.

Here is the Safety Sheet in English and en Espanol. A lot of this course is project based. Our next project is to build bridges

Here is a copy of the Rubric, which you should have written down in class

One important note on the bridge: This is about the DESIGN of the bridge - NOT about the materials. I don't want you to go out and buy And here is a short PowerPoint with more information about the bridges. better matterials to make the bridge. We are using thin pieces of pine. It is good wood, and I am supplying the same wood and glue to everyone. You should plan and think about the design and not use plywood or metal.

Computer Programming: Making Web Pages

This course is more flexible. You will learn Webpage Design and Construction and Make Your Own Webpage!
Khan Academy is a great way to learn at your own pace.
Students are expected to make a final project (either a webpage or an interactive JS program) in order to pass this course.
